Frequently Asked Adoption Questions
I don’t live in TExas. Do you adopt out of state?
Yes! We actually prefer to adopt up north when possible and we are able to transport via Rescue Road Trips.
How much is the adoption fee? what does this include?
All dogs at peacelovedogs are from Texas. In state (Texas only) adoption fee is $350. Out of state adoption fee is $575, which includes transportation fee to our fosters/adopters, and the health certificate needed for transport. All our dogs are fully vetted and receive a clean bill of health before ever leaving our rescue. Standard vetting includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip, heartworm test (and treatment if necessary), fecal test (and treatment if necessary) and grooming. Many of our dogs also require additional veterinary care and we spare no expense: x-rays, orthopedic surgeries, amputations, tumor removals, upper respiratory treatments, skin infections, and dental cleanings to name a few. On average we spend $8k-$10k a month, and in some instances have spent up to $15k in one month.
Are any of your dogs hypoallergenic and/or low-shed?
A lot of our dogs are mixes. Some were either strays or shelter dogs, and most often have no attached pedigree. And while we can make our best guess at a dog being part poodle, bichon, wheaten, etc. (breeds that are typically thought to be more “hypoallergenic” than others) it is still just that — a guess. With that being said, we cannot and will not guarantee any dog will be hypoallergenic and/or low-shed. What we will guarantee is that we will make the best possible match for our dogs and our adopters.
Will the dog be house-trained/crate-trained?
Every single dog, whether they seem to be completely house-trained/crate-trained while in a foster’s home, will require time to acclimate to a new home. We cannot guarantee that there will be no accidents while this adjustment period takes place and ask that adopters be patient and understanding during this time.
I see a dog that I am interested IN is being fostered somewhere near me. can I arrange a meet and greet?
Before any meet and greets would be possible, an adoption application *must* be completed, submitted, and approved. The reason for this is two-fold.
- We need to make sure that your home is the right fit for the dog and that the dog is the right fit for you.
- A lot of our dogs are living with fosters. Imagine if every person who inquired about a specific dog got to meet it. That is a lot not only for a dog to go through, but for a foster as well. We really value our fosters — as well as their time and their commitment to these dogs — and therefore we would only ever ask for a meet and greet if we felt that it could be a perfect match.
What is the process for adoption?
If you see a dog you are interested in, or if you are looking to adopt and aren’t sure what kind of dog may be best for you or your family but know that you would like to work with peacelovedogs to make your doggie dreams come true, the first step is to complete an application. Once the application is submitted, we will review your application for adoption. When a determination is made you will be notified. If you are approved to adopt, you will sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee, and we will set up a date and time for transport and your Gotcha Day!
I emailed/messaged/contacted you, and I haven’t heard back yet. How do I get in touch with you?
Our typical turnaround time is 24-72 hours. However, with that being said, this rescue is run on a volunteer basis, and we all have full-time jobs and families of our own. If you haven’t heard from us right away, we ask that you please be patient. ‘Life’ may have happened. We promise that we are doing our best to respond in a timely fashion and you are very important to us. After all, without you what we do wouldn’t be possible. As soon as we have a free moment to reply, we will. We work tirelessly around the clock to make this possible for the dogs of Houston, as well as our wonderful adopters. We sincerely appreciate your interest in peacelovedogs rescue, as well as your patience. We look forward to working with you!
